Bodyshells are reasonably robust and I have only seen rusted through bodywork on pre 2000 models. The Underside is a different story ! See -

In order to make sure that parts fit the following are key differences:

​

• 3 door and 5 door bodyshell (3 door having a removable rear roof and side window section)

• Car and van varients

• 1997 - 2001 'Grey Bumper'

• 2002 - 2003 'Black Bumper'

• 2003 - 2006 'Facelift', body coloured bumpers and changed lights front and back

• V6 front bumper is a diiferent shape to others (having a longer profile)

If you are looking to match colours for panels then it helps to have the paint code from the VIN plate.

Most badges are stuck on and so the trim level E, S, ES and Sport etc. does not affect the outer panels unless you want badging and decals to match.
